FAQs

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is a premium vinyl flooring with multiple layers, including a high-definition printed design and protective wear layer. Unlike standard vinyl sheet, LVT comes in rigid planks or tiles, offering superior durability, realistic wood or stone effects, and better dimensional stability. It's thicker, more hard-wearing, and ideal for both residential and commercial UK applications.
Yes. LVT is 100% waterproof, making it perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, and other moisture-prone areas in UK homes. It won't warp, swell, or degrade when exposed to spills or humidity. However, proper installation with sealed edges and appropriate subfloor preparation is essential to prevent water seeping underneath, particularly on ground floors or over concrete.
Many LVT products feature click-lock systems suitable for DIY installation. However, for the best finish and long-lasting results—especially with glue-down LVT or on uneven subfloors—we recommend using an experienced professional fitter. We can arrange fitting as part of our service, ensuring correct adhesive selection, acclimatisation, expansion gaps, and a flawless result.
LVT is exceptionally durable, often outlasting laminate in high-traffic areas. Wear layers rated 0.3mm+ resist scratches, scuffs, and dents better than many laminates. Unlike real wood, LVT is waterproof and dimensionally stable, making it ideal for UK kitchens and bathrooms. It's softer underfoot than laminate, warmer than tile, and requires far less maintenance than engineered or solid wood.
Yes. Most LVT flooring is compatible with underfloor heating (UFH), both water and electric systems. Check the manufacturer's specifications for maximum temperature limits (typically 27°C surface temperature). Rigid LVT or glue-down formats generally perform better with UFH than loose-lay. Professional fitting ensures proper thermal conductivity and prevents issues with expansion or adhesive failure.
Absolutely. Commercial-grade LVT is designed for heavy footfall in offices, retail spaces, schools, and healthcare facilities across the UK. Look for products with thicker wear layers (0.55mm+) and commercial warranties. LVT's waterproof nature, ease of cleaning, and slip-resistant finishes make it ideal for demanding environments whilst maintaining an attractive, professional appearance.
LVT is low-maintenance. Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove grit, and damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid abrasive tools, bleach, or steam mops, which can damage the wear layer. Wipe spills promptly. Use protective pads under furniture and doormats at entrances to reduce dirt ingress—particularly important in the UK climate where wet conditions bring in more debris.
LVT is warmer underfoot than ceramic or porcelain tiles due to its vinyl composition, though cooler than carpet. Adding acoustic or thermal underlay (where permitted by the product type) can improve warmth and comfort. LVT also works excellently over underfloor heating, providing consistent warmth—ideal for UK homes seeking comfort during colder months.

High-quality LVT typically lasts 15–25 years in residential settings and 10–20 years in commercial environments when properly fitted and maintained. Lifespan depends on wear layer thickness, foot traffic, and care. Many manufacturers offer residential warranties of 15–25 years. Professional installation and regular cleaning maximise durability and appearance retention.

LVT can often be installed over existing hard, flat, and stable surfaces such as vinyl, ceramic tile, or concrete. The subfloor must be smooth, clean, and level. Uneven or damaged floors require preparation first. Whilst some homeowners tackle this themselves, professional fitting ensures the subfloor is properly assessed and prepared, which is critical for long-term performance.
